In Victoria on May 1 1999 a new Recreational Registration category was introduced. We have had allot of inquiries on this rego at the shop so here are the Facts.
Allowed Use - Recreation registered motorcycles can be used on local and forest roads that are:
Located outside of built up areas, (a built up area has speed restriction zones Not declared as freeways, state highways, main roads or tourist roads under section 2 of the transport act 1983. Roads classified 3000-3999 or not classified in the Vicroads Directory Basically this means outer metro, unsealed (mainly) roads and roads without street lights or speed limit signs.
Allowed Vehicles As long as it is a motorcycle with 2 wheels and 2 brakes (no ATV,s) and fits below listed requirements your in. No compliance plate required. Motocrossers welcome.
Allowed user the operator must have a motorcycle learner's permit or license. (No Juniors). You can only register in the name of somebody who has a motorcycle learners or license. Recreation Registration includes full TAC insurance cover. You can now compete in the Victorian Enduro and Cross Country series with recreation registration and even most organized rally's like the Blue Light Ride.
Costs TAC Premium $ 55.00 inc,s Full TAC insurance cover. Reg Fee $ 7.30 Plate fee $ 14.20
Booking and inspection fee $ 33.35 Stamp duty $ 8.00 for every $ 200.00 of declared market value THE BIKE HAS TO HAVE Headlamp (single beam OK). Tail lamp with provision for light to shine on the number plate. A stop lamp operating off the rear brake. Effective muffler 94db. Right hand mirror. Electric or air warning device, horn.
A self sufficient charge system for lighting. (not a total loss power system)

You must take with you to the inspection ID and a receipt for the purchase of the bike. For more info, head to vicroads and they will clear up any queries.
